The River Lodge

Daniel was a terrific host and was happy to help with anything. I only wish we’d had more time to stay.

Dani and Fran made the weekend feel so welcoming, going out of their way for everyone. They drove us to and from the Mardi Gras party, dried our rain-soaked clothes, and even cooked eggs just how we wanted them, with smiley faces. The lodge was clean, comfy and homely, about 10 minutes from the city centre. My friends and I were there for the town’s Mardi Gras celebrations, and their kindness made it such an enjoyable, comfortable weekend. Thank you!

We brought our little dog Ollie, who slept peacefully in the warm, cosy room. The fireplace was lovely in winter, and we enjoyed the European breakfast, served from 7 to 9am. Dani was a wonderful host. The chalet is quiet, with snow-capped mountain views and a flowing river just a few metres away. We came for my husband’s birthday and a break from Auckland’s bustle. Thanks, Daniel, and all the best to you and the place.

Dani was lovely and really helpful, and breakfast was great. We were grateful to bring our well-behaved dog, who was made very welcome. Our chalet was beautifully appointed, and the wood burner kept it lovely and warm. On a cold winter evening, an open fire and a glass of wine were just right. The peaceful rural setting is a little way outside Ohakune, with a babbling brook along the property and a short river walk across the grounds.
