Palmerston North Motel

The room smelled strongly of dogs as soon as we walked in, and the yellow stains on the toilet seats felt unhygienic. We stayed just a few nights and regretted it. The air conditioning didn't work, and there was no Wi-Fi at all despite it being advertised. When my husband asked a woman at reception about the Wi-Fi, she wasn't helpful and seemed keen to hurry him along. I had to use my phone hotspot for the kids. It felt like you couldn't ask anyone at this motel for help. Thanks for the room, but never again. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We were here for two nights for a sporting event and only needed a place to sleep, thankfully. The rooms were in okay condition, nothing special, but not very clean. There were five of us, but we had four towels, four cups and plates, two face cloths, and only half a roll of toilet paper. We didn't ask for more after one of our group was told “it's my day off!!” by a staff member when requesting towels. They then threw the towels at them. Calm down.

We ended up booking a night at B Ks premier, which was amazing and gave the trip a lovely ending. The first place was cheaper than other options, and had a good central location, a decent amount of space, and a big bed. My partner had booked a couple of nights for us, but clearly hadn't read the reviews. The shower pressure was poor and it was hard to get the temperature right, so the place needs serious maintenance. Maybe they can't provide that at the moment, who am I to judge. There were a few ants and a cockroach gave me a fright 😂. The place smelled a bit and I felt unclean there. It looked like some people lived in the rooms, so perhaps only a couple are available to book. It's run down, but cheaper, so you get to decide what you're willing to pay for.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the accommodation itself is basic. It's old, smells old, and could do with freshening up.
