Oxford Court Motel

The owners were great, and we had an awesome chat. Some guests were doing a lot of yelling, though it didn't cause me any trouble. The rooms are a bit dated, but for the price it was really nice.

I came to Nelson from Great Barrier Island with my son, thinking I'd already sorted a place to stay. We ended up with nowhere, but the guy who runs this place replied to my online enquiry when no one else would. We booked three nights and have been really pleased with the service. Clean, affordable accommodation with excellent customer service. I'd highly recommend it.

We planned to stay a few nights, but woke up with cockroaches crawling over us. The place is filthy, with dirty cutlery, unclean walls, cupboards and floors, and mould in the corners beneath the bathroom sink. The rooms looked nothing like the photos. The decor is old, cold, and terrible, and the owners' excuse is that they're being updated. The owners were unpleasant too. I heard the woman before I saw her, and the old man smelled like a drunk. Their son smokes, spits, and is always watching women. People I believe were work and income clients sat around smoking, drinking, and being lazy. I saw what seemed like an inspection coming up, so they were rushing around tidying. Honestly, this was the worst motel in the area. It was a very bad experience, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The unit had ants everywhere, and the leaking fridge left water all over the kitchen floor. It was also really noisy, right on the main road. The kids did enjoy the pool, which was the only saving grace. I would not stay again.
