Young Hostel

We felt uncomfortable and left just five minutes after arriving. It looked more like a family home than a hostel, with a woman who seemed to live there with her baby. The house was messy, some rooms were empty, and personal belongings were left in the bathroom and around the house. The price is fine if you're looking to rent a room in someone else's family home.

The sheets and towels were spotless, and the staff were friendly. For budget travelers, this is a basic hostel with good value, and the free breakfast was a nice extra, with eggs, muesli, toast, tea, coffee and more. My only complaint is about basic maintenance, which could use a lot more attention.

The place was so cold, even with the heating on, and the room itself was very basic. Breakfast was self serve from the fridge. We didn't stay the night and had to book another proper hotel. On arrival, I wasn't even sure I was at the hotel. There were muddy plots behind a house with what looked like boxes, not chalets. They didn't lock, so we couldn't leave our things and didn't feel safe, especially with the open barrier giving straight onto the street. Inside the house, I was shocked to find just one shared shower for all the boxes, about seven or eight, plus three indoor rooms. To get to the shared shower and toilets, we had to go outside in the cold and mud.

People mention a lot of things, but after our one night here I think they're overlooking the smell. The whole town sits on geothermal activity and gives off a lot of sulphur, so the area smells like rotten eggs. If you can sleep through bad smells, good on you.
