Taupo Escape - Rainbow Point Holiday Home

We couldn't bring ourselves to sleep in the bed. It had no support when I sat on the edge, and the room smelled awful, with worrying stains on the bed valance, cobwebs, and bugs on the walls. The room next door was blasting music. We didn't feel safe leaving our bags there while we went to dinner, so we left and found somewhere else. The owner said it was an old motel, but this was beyond what I'd expect.

The receptionist was lovely, warm, and very efficient, but the place itself is a dump. It's musty and badly run down, with broken blinds, filthy carpet, and old, broken furniture. The maintenance is disgraceful. If I were visiting from overseas, I'd be appalled. Management needs to make some much-needed repairs, and people should boycott the place until they do.

For the low price, the room covered the basics well. It was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the sheets were good quality. The shower had strong pressure and flow and worked well. Some minor renovation work is needed, and you could ask for more, but cleanliness, a comfortable bed, and a usable shower all get a tick from me.

We paid more than the unit was worth, especially given the condition. The spa bath didn't work, the towels were worn, and there are no cooking facilities. The carpet was worn and a light switch seemed dangerous. Rubbish was stored in the wrong place outside the unit where we parked. We knew Rainbow Point Motel was an older style, but the owner's and manager's poor care of the facilities has left the place below standard. It needs proper maintenance and cleaning. I won't recommend it.
