Edgewater Motel Te Anau

It was freezing, and the heater in our room was broken, but staff brought us another one. The place was filthy from the moment I walked in, the sort of place where you don’t want to take off your shoes or touch anything. We arrived in the evening and had to leave by 4am. The short time there was the only reason I stayed.

We stayed in the Villa and were very disappointed. The couch pillows had trash in them, the carpet was disgusting, and the place was old, rundown, and smelled like mildew. There was no office staff, and our check-in information was taped to the window.

The location was great, but disappointing service made for a very poor stay. It was overpriced for the quality of the experience, and despite its prime location, I’d never stay there again.

We stayed three nights as a family in the superior one-bedroom suite. It was clean and spacious enough, with a queen bed in the bedroom, two single beds in the living area, a kitchenette, and a counter with chairs. The beds were comfortable, the neighborhood was quiet, and we slept well. The hotel charged my credit card the day before our stay without checking with me, even though I’d selected cash payment at the property when booking. There was also a card payment surcharge. When we arrived, nobody was at reception. A note taped to the window said staff were short and that the stay had already been charged, and told us to help ourselves to the room.
