ASURE Explorer Motel & Apartments

We haven’t even checked out yet, and I already wanted to write this. The room is fresh, clearly cared for, and unbelievably clean. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, and this is the cleanest one I can remember. It may seem like an odd thing to focus on, but good housekeeping isn’t as common as it used to be, and this place gets it right. Check-in was quick and efficient. They’d also thought of plenty of little extras: sweets, tea and coffee choices, biscuits, a fancy TV, heated blankets, makeup remover, and extra pillows and blankets. Don’t let the reasonable price or motel style put you off. It may not be traditional luxury, but the cleanliness and attention to detail put it among the top three hotels I’ve stayed in. If you’re in Te Anau, book it. You won’t regret it.

For a motel in the three star category, the room is fairly spacious but very basic, with an adequate though tight bathroom and shower. It served us well at a good price in Te Anau. We give it five stars for the location, cleanliness, service, and value.

We had a ground floor room with large glass doors facing the street, so people could see inside. We kept the curtains closed, though I’d probably have preferred an upstairs room. Otherwise, ASURE was excellent value for New Year’s Eve, when only a few reasonably priced hotels were available. The rooms were very large, with fully equipped kitchenettes, and there was free parking. It’s within walking distance of everything in town. Not luxurious, but it had the essentials for a comfortable Te Anau visit at a fair price.

The room was small but comfortable, and the shower was good. Reception staff were friendly. It’s a very convenient spot, an easy, short walk into town.
