Marakura Deluxe Motels

The warm, nice showers and easy check-in were the good parts, even though we arrived after reception had closed. We only stayed one night in our van, and the location was good. We couldn’t get warm in the communal room, which had almost no heating beyond one AC unit. The kitchen had no cutlery or pots, though you could hire them for 5NZD. None of our devices could get the Wi-Fi working either. The price would feel fair with heat in the shared area and working Wi-Fi. Probably better in warmer seasons.

We booked the night before and ended up really enjoying our stay. The park is large, and it stayed comfortable even when it was busy. Some facilities look a bit dated, but they were spotless, with plenty of toilets and showers. The laundry was among the best we’ve used. There’s a big playground, and the lake is close enough to walk over for a swim. Highly recommend it for a stay in Te Anau.

The lake’s cold plunge was a brilliant experience, so don’t miss it. We found the place peaceful but still conveniently located, with tidy, well-maintained facilities, a lovely kitchen, and spotless washrooms. One of our favourite stays. It worked perfectly as a base heading to Milford Sound or Wanaka, and we’d come back without hesitation.

The rates were very affordable, and it’s a huge park in a beautiful setting. Our room was well heated and the facilities were extensive. We used the kitchen to boil water and reheat food, and the laundry to wash off our wet gear after a local Great Walk. It took us a while to adjust because it was more basic, dated, and thin-walled than we’d expected. We’d pictured a cabin, but it was more of a lodge with corridors. Good to know ahead of time.
