Glowworm Motel

The woman running the place was really helpful, with tips on where to eat and where we could see glowworms for free. It's in an amazing spot between the city and cave area, just off the highway. Our room was nice and a good value for the price. There was no AC, but they provided fans. We were cold, though, and leaving the window open to cool things down meant mosquitoes ate us alive. Once night came, we slept cool. Thanks for a great stay, and we were happy to have your cat visit us while we checked out.

It's well placed for heading to either Waitomo or Otorohanga, and the price made it a great place to stay. We struggled to find it because both Waze and Google Maps sent us to a private residential street, one turn too early. The right turn is just before the big roundabout with the petting zoo. We told the gentleman who checked us in, so hopefully the map providers can fix it. He was super friendly and gave us good sightseeing tips. The room was clean, well maintained, and a good size. Beds and pillows were average, but comfortable enough for the price, especially since you probably won't spend much time in the room.

The family room was a perfect fit for our large family, and they had plenty of bedding and towels. We were even given fresh milk when we arrived. Despite seeing lots of negative reviews, we really enjoyed our stay. The owner was extremely kind and helpful, with suggestions for places to eat and things to do.

We needed somewhere with easy access to OŌtorohanga and Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, and this was just right. The room was clean and spacious, and reception service was great. We'll stay again.
