The washroom and shower were among the best we had during our seven hotel stays in New Zealand, and felt five-star. Our room, facing the front porch, had been nicely refurbished. The place has a relaxed country feel, from the furniture and atmosphere to breakfast, which made a pleasant change from the city hotels. We’d initially expected it to be one of the less impressive stops on our group tour, but it turned out quite nice. There’s no lift, as you’d expect with this style of property, so having a first-floor room helped with our heavy luggage. Cleanliness could use attention, especially around breakfast. The cushion chairs looked stained, and we saw staff sweep food onto the floor with a tablecloth. Better housekeeping and dining-area cleaning would help this charming place.

As a tour coach driver, I always find our arrival here well organized and warmly welcoming. The room is nice and quiet, and Twizel makes a great stop. I’m already looking forward to dinner, the buffet is plentiful and sumptuous, and the beer is cold.

The town itself is lovely and quiet, even if Twizel isn’t a great location. The hotel is a good one in town. It looks old and a bit tired from outside, but the rooms are clean and well kept. We had a lovely dinner there after Christmas. The staff were friendly, and reception suggested some nice places for star photography. Thanks so much.

I travel around NZ every week as a tour driver and stay in plenty of hotels, and this one is easily my favourite. The dinner and breakfast buffets are superb, with great choices. I haven’t found another NZ hotel offering Portuguese Tarts and waffles at breakfast. The newer rooms are amazing, while the older ones are still very comfortable. Everything was spotless and the beds so comfy. GM Issac and the staff are great hosts, with many long-term team members. Well done, team. Keep up the excellent work. Rene Pavlovitch Coaches NZ

The rooms were modern, but very small. The bedding hadn’t been changed, and it wasn’t even made properly.
