Shepherds Arms Hotel

The team were great. After we left an iPad in the room at checkout, they tried to contact us. When I called, they confirmed they'd found it and sent it to our home in Auckland just a couple of days later. Great service, kudos to them. The location and service were both great, the staff were great, and the rooms were clean and spacious. There was parking too. It's a budget hotel, though: the bed was springy and you sank into the couch, so the room gets three stars from me. Showers were fine, but the fixtures were very old. No AC, but our fan worked and the weather was getting colder.

The shopping location is great, with lots of cute shops nearby. The staff were friendly, too. But the whole place needs a makeover, the parking is shit and the rooms are below average. I didn't eat there because the kitchen was closed at 8pm. After a very, very long day, having to go hunt for dinner wasn't great. Just don't.

I've mostly been there for the food and drinks, and the service has always been attentive and quick. The pub food is very good, there's a good selection of beers on tap and the gantry is well stocked. It can fill up on Friday evenings after work, but usually it's not too hard to find a table. The Sheperds Arms Hotel is one of Wellington's oldest continuously operating hostilries. It's mainly a local pub, though it also has guest rooms, which I can't comment on.

The food was great and the staff were exceptional. Big thanks to the strawberry blond with the beard behind the bar. He was super welcoming and sorted out problems like a champ. The rooms were adequate, and the place was fine to stay in. The shower had no working ventilation and no window that opened. That bathroom door was memorable too, you had to wrestle it into submission every time you wanted it shut.
