Naumi Hotel Wellington

Our room was huge and beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable bed, a massive bathroom, and all the amenities we could think of. The hotel’s car park was a welcome extra, since parking in Wellington can be hectic and it was good knowing the car was secure. It’s surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants and cafes, and our location made exploring Wellington easy. My wife and I also had a delicious meal at the hotel’s Asian fusion restaurant. The staff were friendly and knew the city well, so they could answer questions. We’d definitely recommend it for a short city break in Wellington.

The location was good, and the bathroom was clean, though the shower was really small. Neither of the two Type 2 electric chargers worked. On our second night we went down for drinks and heard the bartender call last rounds. I went to the counter, but another man told me they weren’t serving any more drinks. People who’d been ahead of me in line had all been served, so being turned away was annoying and I couldn’t work out why. The woman bartender that evening was amazing, with really good skills.

The location is excellent, and some of the staff are lovely and helpful, but the service from others is hit-or-miss. A few seem to lack basic hospitality skills. It’s a pity, because the hotel has a lot of potential, but the management needs to raise the service standard. The rooms are cramped, dated, and felt neglected. There’s no desk and barely any floor space. Dust was so thick that I doubt the room had been vacuumed recently, and it was still dusty after I asked for a second cleaning. Breakfast was mediocre.

Naumi made our anniversary trip a great two-night stay. My wife and I loved the welcoming, helpful staff, the rooms and amenities, and the bar and dining spaces. The hotel has a stylish, funky feel without going overboard, and sits right in central Wellington among period art deco buildings. We had dinner at the in-house restaurant and bar, 'Naumi Studio'; every dish we ordered was delicious and the service was top-notch. We plan to come back on our next NZ holiday. Highly recommend it.
