Comfort Hotel Flames Whangerei

We went for a family birthday meal, 4 people, including 2 from Auckland who eat out a lot. They were very pleased with the menu, which offered a good selection of food types without dozens of different dishes. Their comment was, “Do what you do well.” We all chose different mains and desserts and were impressed with the food, its presentation, and the attentive service that didn’t feel in your face. A jolly good from them, and a jolly well done from all of us. Would we eat there again? Without hesitation. We didn’t take photos because the food looked too good to waste time photographing, and it tasted good too.

The room was clean and clearly well cared for, even if the building feels a bit dated. We held a one-day work meeting and stayed for two nights. The meeting room was set up just right, and the food and coffee were better than I expected. The staff were amazing and so accommodating. I’d highly recommend it.

Those sunsets from the room were stunning, and the pool was a refreshing bonus. We came for a car show and found the location really convenient. The room was clean, had what we needed, and even came with a big-screen TV and Netflix. It does feel dated, and some rooms and areas need maintenance. I’d call it closer to three stars than four, but it was fine for a couple of nights.

We’re locals, and my husband and I spent the night here for our 35th wedding anniversary. The food at Flames was delicious and top notch. The staff were friendly, gave great service, and made the whole evening lovely. We really enjoyed it, thanks to the team.
