Muscat Express Hotel

I’ve stayed at quite a few budget hotels around Muscat, and this one gave me the best value. Muscat Express Hotel is a dependable, comfortable place without anything fancy. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was in good shape, which can be hard to find in this category here. Breakfast was pretty good too. A pleasant surprise for a 3-star hotel.

The walls and doors are thin enough that we could hear people in the hallway and other rooms, which was a bit distracting. Still, the breakfast was satisfactory, even if it could have had more choice. Our room was clean, the staff were very polite and helpful, and everything else was OK during our stay. Nice hotel in Muscat, recommended.

We asked the reception manager for compensation after a string of disruptions, but were refused. First the air conditioning stopped working across the entire floor after we’d been there several days, so we had to change rooms. The following day, repair work was extremely loud from 10 AM until 1 PM and we couldn’t rest. Later that day the whole hotel had a strong smell of gas, which was alarming. This isn’t the service I expect on a multi-night stay. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel and will never come back.

The room itself was spacious, comfortable and clean, but sleeping and parking were both a struggle. Finding a space was a real problem even before 8:00 pm, and after that it seemed impossible. When I asked, they said there were no spaces and told me to look farther away. Housekeeping woke me at 7:00 in the morning on the first day, cleaning the neighboring room through a non-insulated wooden door in the wall. I heard vacuuming, chairs being dragged around, and loud scraping on the floor and wood. On day two, the fire alarm rang continuously for at least 10 minutes. Everyone hurried to reception, where we were told someone had been smoking in a room, and it couldn’t be silenced while the person was still smoking. It was a bad stay.
