Muscat Plaza Hotel

The delay at check-in set the tone for a really disappointing stay at Muscat Plaza Hotel. We booked two rooms through booking for our family of three children, from 26th to 28th December. We were meant to check in at 12:00, but the confirmation later said the rooms would be ready at 15:00. Even arriving on time, we waited 45 minutes and didn’t get the rooms until 15:45. Reception staff seemed indifferent and didn’t help. The rooms felt claustrophobic and depressing. The windows wouldn’t open, and the view was just a gray wall of the neighboring building, only 5 meters away. The carpet stank, the shower was covered in mold, and the room felt unsanitary. A loud ventilation fan ran all night and couldn’t be switched off. We asked staff to fix it or turn it off, but the technician only suggested closing the bathroom door, which made no difference. The refrigerator didn’t work either, it just made noise. Breakfast was chaotic and overcrowded, with almost nothing to eat except boiled eggs. God forbid. It isn’t worth paying for, and a nearby café is a much better option. The service was terrible, like you’d expect from a low-quality, badly managed hotel. Staff did almost nothing to help. I don’t know who gave this place 3 stars. Even hotels in remote work camps are better maintained and cleaner. Families with children will be very disappointed. Our children were shocked by the conditions and joked that it was the “Indian hotel” because of the poor quality and service. It was an awful hotel experience, far below expectations. I can’t recommend it to anyone.

With everything happening in the Middle East, Qatar Airways put us up here in difficult circumstances. The food arrived on time each day, and our rooms were clean. I want to thank the staff, who were warm and welcoming when we really needed it. They worked beyond their hours to make sure everyone was served, and the reception team went above and beyond to look after us and make sure we were safe. During a tense time in the world, they helped us feel comfortable and at ease.

This was the worst stay I’ve had. I spent three nights here and ended up changing rooms twice, with the reception lady then pushing me to move again. The first room had poor internet, a cockroach on the bed and a very dirty washroom. I raised it with reception and was promised the next room would have a proper connection, but the internet was just as bad. I called reception at least five times to get it sorted. The maintenance guy tried to help but couldn’t fix it. When I asked to speak with a manager, there wasn’t one on duty, nor a supervisor. The reception lady was also very rude, and asked what solution I expected if I didn’t want to move. Staff are the first impression of a hotel, and they were no help at all. This is not a 3 star hotel, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms are spacious, clean and well furnished, and the location is very good. Staff are really friendly and do their best to find solutions to any problems. Breakfast is served in the morning, and there’s a supermarket in the hotel with what we need. Restaurants are within walking distance. There weren’t enough towels in the room, and the breakfast room can’t fit all the hotel’s residents, so depending on the time you may not find a seat. Breakfast is the main thing they could improve.
