The snorkeling here is among the best, with coral reefs just five feet away. We had grilled lobster with an incredible garlic sauce, and the service was uniquely great. Easily one of my favorite vacation spots in Panama for a Caribbean getaway.

The setting is beautiful, and the staff are very friendly, but the property feels neglected and poorly managed. The food was below average, and most dishes seemed to be unavailable much of the time. Our room was grubby, with blood stains on the sheets.

The rooms at Coconut Lodge are great, but good rooms can't make up for a lack of service and respect. From check-in to check-out, the service was very poor, with no Wi-Fi, rationed breakfast, and badly coordinated boats. It's a rebranded Bananas, and management has a lot to work on, including major staff changes. I'd try one of the island's cheaper options.
