San Blas Islands Panamá

The drive and roads out there were bumpy and tiring, but I'd still highly recommend the trip. These are romantic little islands off Panama, with breathtaking water. Accommodation and food are basic and minimal, as you'd expect.

A relaxing day trip from Panama City for some beach time, though the drive is long. Our 5:15am pickup was about 4 hours before we reached the islands, including the water taxi and a breakfast stop. $100 covers transport and lunch.

For me, San Blas Islands is one of Panama's most beautiful places. The turquoise water is crystal clear, the sand is bright white, and the natural scenery feels untouched and truly special. It's a perfect spot to relax, enjoy nature, and disconnect from everything. Absolutely breathtaking and highly recommended.

What bothered me most was how poorly prepared the tours seemed to be for bad weather, discomfort, or unexpected problems. The whole experience felt physically and mentally draining rather than relaxing. Getting there is exhausting, with a very rough road journey followed by the boat. Once you arrive, the organization is lacking: facilities are extremely basic, hygiene is limited, there was visible trash in some areas, and extra charges kept coming without being explained upfront. It all felt improvised instead of thoughtfully planned. I expected a peaceful escape into nature, but the trip was much more difficult and disappointing than advertised. San Blas might suit very adventurous travelers who are okay with discomfort and uncertainty, but I wouldn't recommend it to most people hoping for a calm, enjoyable getaway.
