Inti Punku Alameda Inn

The room was clean, cool, and comfortable, and the staff were beyond kind. On the morning I was meant to hike up to Machu Picchu, I got extremely sick and couldn’t walk two steps without crapping myself. It was checkout day, so I begged for any room at all until my ride back to Lima was available. They gave me one free of charge until the afternoon. That was extraordinary. Highly recommend staying here during your Machu Picchu trip.

Room 608 on the sixth floor had a lovely balcony, a rare feature in Aguas Calientes, with two chairs, a little table, and live plants that made it feel cozy. Inside, the room was spacious and well equipped: a couch, work surface, resting chair, artwork, two TVs, coffee pot and two cups, small fridge, safe, air conditioner, and radiator for cooler evenings. The bathroom had a standalone bathtub, a separate shower with decent pressure, a nice toilet, hair dryer, and double basin. The bed was huge and very comfortable, with six pillows. There was also a phone for reaching the front desk, and the staff were fantastic and offered a late checkout. We had a wonderful stay at Inti Punku Hotel in Aguas Calientes and would happily recommend it to other travelers.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and very nice, with outdoor balconies and seats. My room faced the train station, but I didn’t find it noisy. I was asleep early and the trains hadn’t started when I got up at 4:30 AM to go to Machu Picchu, though it was quiet at night too. I didn’t notice the bad odors mentioned in some other reviews. Staff were generally helpful, breakfast started at 5 AM, and they kindly let me check out late after a morning hike up Huaynu Picchu. The difficult part was a power restriction on the day I arrived around 10 AM. The government had asked some businesses, including this hotel, not to use electricity until 3 PM. I later learned the water system also depended on electricity, so there was no water all day. The receptionist tried to explain, in broken English, that power would return at 3, but it actually came back later in the afternoon. A small sign by the elevator added to the confusion. A large notice in Spanish and English at reception would have made things much clearer. I don’t expect everyone to speak English, but a business where at least half the guests speak it should accommodate them in situations like this. Guests should also get a discount when their room has no power or water for much of the day. Breakfast was a decent, typical continental buffet. Don’t expect made-to-order eggs or anything else.

The best part of our stay at INTI PUNKU HOTEL was how the staff handled my lost camera. I left it in the lobby at checkout and only realized a full day later, when I was already in Cusco with a flight the next morning. It seemed almost impossible to get it back. The staff acted quickly and kindly, coordinating with their partner Benjamin, who happened to be traveling to Cusco. Within 12 hours of contacting the hotel, my camera was delivered safely to my hotel there. I was amazed they went to that effort for someone who had already checked out. We gave them a tip, but it couldn’t match the peace of mind and gratitude they gave us. The location is also incredibly convenient. It’s a two-minute walk from the Aguas Calientes railway station, with plenty of food nearby, and the Consettur bus stop for Machu Picchu is about seven minutes away. That makes early entry times much easier. My Machu Picchu trip was fabulous, but the most precious part was meeting such wonderful people, especially the team at Inti Punku. Their kindness and dedication made the stay unforgettable and left me with a deep appreciation for the people of Peru. I highly recommend staying here for the comfort, convenience, and staff who treat you like family. ❤️🇵🇪
