New Day Machu Picchu

The massage at New Day was good and cost 40 soles for an hour, and laundry was a good deal at what I think was 3 soles per kilo. But the massage room smelled musty and had a dirty carpet. I still would've been happy with the stay if I hadn't gone to Inka Massage on the second floor, where I had one of the best massages I've ever had for 66 soles. The area there was very clean, with a nice, slightly warm sun breeze. I think Inka Massage overcharged us, but I'd still pay 66 soles there before coming back for the 40-sol massage at New Day. At the hostel, they first couldn't find our reservation and then tried to charge more. Our room faced the inside stairs and walkway, so there was a lot of noise. The hot water wasn't very hot, and there was no heat, though the beds were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets for Peru.

The room was spacious and clean, the location was good, and the Wi-Fi was fast enough for Netflix. We had hot water, and the staff were very nice, except for the waiter at the restaurant next door. He offered a food discount, then added a service charge that seemed to cancel it out. The food itself was pretty poor, so don't eat there. The breakfast was extremely basic. Our toilet didn't work properly and wasted water, though it was still usable. Nights were moderately cold and there was no heater, but the blankets were good. The rooms were actually pretty good, clean and modern, and in good condition. Still, the way we were treated left a bad impression. They had asked for our train number and arrival time and were supposed to meet us at the station, but nobody showed up. The Booking address was wrong too, and we wouldn't have found the place without help from a local. Our booking was $21, but a few hours before check-in they emailed to raise it to $26 with no explanation. At the property, they also asked for an extra 10% to pay by credit card, though that fee wasn't disclosed anywhere and is forbidden under Visa and MasterCard rules. Finally, they used an exchange rate that wasn't the real one. Dishonest people, stay away.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast was simple but good. The rooms feel dated, though the price was good.
