The setting between the mountains and river was stunning, and the hotel’s hot spring pools made the stay even more enjoyable. We found the rooms comfortable and warm, the service really good, and the food good too. El Refugio was a wonderful adventure in the Colca Canyon in Arequipa, Peru. We had a great time and would definitely recommend it if you’re visiting the area.

The thermal baths right at the hotel were a nice convenience, though they weren’t especially warm. If you want more variety, the baths in Chivay are an option if you’re willing to go out. Our tour group stayed here, and the remote riverside setting was stunning. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and dinner, drinks, and breakfast were all good. I’d still highly recommend it for its unique character, and the waterfall trail is worth walking up. Some room basics could be better for a four-star stay: softer towels, less firm beds, better temperature control, cleaner bathrooms, and stronger WiFi.

Our stay was nice overall, though we had a power outage on the first day and there’s no WiFi access in the rooms. The hotel is in a remote spot, with beautiful views from its amazing thermal baths, which you can book. The staff were very nice.

We loved sitting on our balcony and looking out over the canyon, with the waterfall audible from the room. The hotel has a lovely, intimate feel, the staff were warm and friendly, and the meals were fabulous. The bed was so cozy and comfortable. We highly recommend this beautiful place.
