Edificio Juana Chorrillos

Staying at Edificio Juana Chorrillos let me see everyday life in Lima beyond the usual tourist side. I had fun taking the tut tut taxi and browsing the local markets, and felt safe the whole time. Luis and his brother Cesar were welcoming and always ready to help.

The owner was really friendly. The room could use some work, and getting a taxi can be tricky since drivers don't like going into the area. I had better luck walking out to the main street to find a ride.

The place was nicely furnished, and the manager was friendly and easy to communicate with. But the barking was unbearable: six dogs downstairs and another two next door, going on constantly. Even from the top floor I couldn't sleep well or concentrate. The manager's brother was very kind. His wife wasn't courteous, though, and she was the person guests had to deal with for day-to-day things.

There wasn't anywhere to wait after checkout, which was at 10 am, even though my flight wasn't until 7 pm. The place is hard to locate unless you find it online, since people nearby don't seem to know it. Check-in is at 3 pm. They gave me keys for the gate, street entrance, kitchen, and my room, and guests can use the kitchen and refrigerator. There's a satellite dish in the shared area, while rooms get national channels. The place was very dirty, and it was hard to tell when the stairs or rooms had last been swept or mopped. No bathroom towels were provided, just soap, toilet paper, and one shampoo sachet. The linens weren't changed during my stay. They kept my suitcase when I arrived, apparently worried it would be inspected.
