El Andariego

A clean, simple little hotel just a short walk from the main square. I was traveling alone as a woman and would feel comfortable coming back. Breakfast was nice and uncomplicated. The staff helped me call the airline to track down my lost luggage and arranged my airport rides. They were also making further improvements while I was there.

Our room was huge for what we paid, and we happily spent a few days resting in it. The place is tucked away, so although it’s right in the middle of everything, we didn’t hear noise at night. One letdown was the breakfast, which wasn’t very good. Still, this was one of the best places we’ve stayed in South America, and we’d gladly return.

The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. The bathroom window wouldn’t shut completely. Breakfast was very basic, Peruvian-style, with cooked eggs available if you wanted them. For what you get, it’s not bad, and I’d stay again.

We especially liked the breakfast, with plenty of choice from freshly cooked eggs to fruit and juice. The staff were friendly and spoke English very well. The rooms have thoughtful decorative touches, like old knitting machines, and the central location put all the sights close by. El Andariego Hostel was our favorite place to stay on our whole trip through Peru.
