Hostal El Puma

The roof terrace has a great view across the city, and the price is fair. Breakfast was okay, too. This is a good hostel for a few days in Cusco, though some party lovers can be loud late into the night. Still, it's worth staying here.

The bed was comfortable, and the entrance is nicely decorated, but the rooms feel empty and don't have decor. You can't make the room dark. It was cold, and you could rent a heater for 15 soles. At night there was disco noise, along with people ringing the bell to get in, sometimes repeatedly until someone answered. In the morning, the owner's child made noise. The shower was warm, and breakfast was small, just egg, bread, and marmalade.

It's up some stairs at the end of an alley, with a busy, lively street below. People who need quiet might not like it, but we enjoyed the atmosphere. The main square area is a four-minute walk away, up a slight incline.

The staff got up before 6am when they heard we had an early tour, and made us hot food and snacks. The hostal is peaceful, with roomy dining areas, hot water all day and night, and no loud club music after dark. I’d recommend it to friends and come back if I’m in Cusco again.
