Ukukus Hostel

Everything was kept really clean, and the hot water was actually hot. The bunk beds are built into the wall, so they don’t shake or make noise when you move. It’s super close to the city, and one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in.

There are lots of places to hang out and a huge kitchen. The rooms were nice, the beds comfortable, and the service was great. It’s close enough to the main plaza without being so close that noise becomes a problem. Great hostel.

The three-bed dorm has comfy beds, lockers, and outlets right by your pillow. My room was clean and smelled fine, though the ceiling is only about 6'3" and I’ve hit my head on the light bulb and door jamb. Bathrooms are across the open-air courtyard and are usually stocked with toilet paper. The shower was hot, and it wasn’t an electric one. There’s also a kitchen and hangout area, plus complimentary tea at reception. WiFi worked at around 2-4Mbps, so it wasn’t blazing fast. They arrange tours in-house; I took the trip to lake Humantay and thought it was great and well worth it. Lots of guests do treks and day trips. Laundry is same-day, but mine didn’t come back until after 9:20pm, though they’d said 8pm. That matters if you have a 3:30am wake-up. I haven’t had trouble with loud music, just the usual footsteps and doors, which earplugs mostly block. Breakfast isn’t included. I went to San Pedro market for a liquidado and breakfast sandwich with the locals, muy mejor! It’s a bit of a walk from Plaza de Armas, but Peru has plenty of hiking to get ready for, including Machu Picchu. The staff have been nice and accommodating.

They were accommodating for hikes and day trips, and having a locked room for extra belongings plus laundry service made things easier. We did a five-day hike. The place was clean and the staff friendly.
