My booking had been confirmed days earlier, but when I finally found the entrance and called the hotel at 7pm, they said they had no availability. It took me an hour to find the place because there was no sign showing where it was. I was left without a room for four days. Don’t book this hotel.

Want a “perfect memory”? This hotel owner accused us of damaging the room and charged us $90, though we hadn’t damaged anything. She lied because she wanted the money. They also stopped providing water after 9pm, without telling us when we moved in. A friend ran out of water while showering and got sick. She couldn’t join any tours because of the water issue, and the hotel didn’t provide even cold water. The owner offered us no compensation. We had agreed with her that we’d stay five nights and get one extra night free to keep our luggage in the room. On the last night, she said we had to pay for five nights. We were angry that she went back on her promise. We didn’t want to pay extra, so she forced us to leave that night. She did something unforgivable to us.

The bedrooms were acceptable, but the photos don’t show what the place is really like. The kitchen and bathroom fell below minimum standards. There’s a step between the living room and bathroom, and it’s dangerous because someone could fall.

Magic Cusco Suites is a new, affordable place in the centre of Cusco, close to sights including Plaza de Armas, which is only a short walk away. It’s at Avenida Garcilaso 216 Interior C, near Qoricancha, one of the city’s best-known attractions. For a very local outing, Wanchaq Market is just a two-minute walk away, and it’s one of the busiest markets among Cusco residents. You can walk to Cusco Cathedral in about 15 minutes, or take a taxi in five minutes or less, depending on traffic.
