Pirwa Colonial Hostel

They overbook the hostel, then just say it's full and won't return your money until a manager who isn't there approves it. My online reservation apparently wasn't updated in their system. I've travelled a lot and rarely felt so uncomfortable or looked down on by volunteer staff and reception. I'm Latin, and they were very nice to the Europeans waiting, but looked us up and down when it was our turn. It felt racist. I don't understand how this place has four stars. A really bad experience, and not how you want to start a trip. I'd strongly suggest staying elsewhere. Good luck.

I booked through Hostelworld, but the guy at reception hadn't checked the system or updated it to show there were no rooms. He just told me to leave. A tent would be more reliable than this hostel.

I was moved into a six-bed mixed dorm without warning or even an apology, despite having booked a private room with three beds. They'd double-booked my room. The hostel was also very dirty, with one shared toilet that was hardly ever cleaned. It felt disorganized and unhygienic, and definitely wasn't worth the money. I wouldn't recommend Hostel Pirwa in Cusco.

For what we paid, this was really overpriced. Our private room was only for one night, but the floorboards were cracked or broken, and the door wouldn't close properly. There were gaps in it, so people outside could see in. The building smelled bad in all sorts of ways, and our room had no network signal or proper wifi range.
