Hostal Huacachina Sunset - Hostel

The bathroom was unusable, so bad that we had to use the one by the pool. There was barely any water pressure, and a foul smell came up from the drain. The hotel needs a plumber to install proper valves to keep sewer gas from coming back into the room. We liked the location for the dune Buggy Ride, and the front desk connected us with a local guide who arranged it. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a fan that was nice on warm days.

The location is perfect, and the pool was nice, as were the people. But I didn't feel safe here as a woman. We were five women in a seven-bed dorm, basically one large room with simple beds and no privacy. A man could stare at us the whole time. The lockers were too small for a bag, and it was noisy at night, so bring earplugs. The bathroom smelled and wasn't clean. The hot shower had so little pressure it wasn't enough to wash properly, and the man at the front desk said that was normal. Breakfast was very light. The most concerning part was coming back from a bar around midnight: a man followed us all the way to the hostel and was harassing us. We told the front desk agent someone was following us, and he just ignored us without answering.

The host was very nice, and the two-bed room was simple but enough for us. The bathroom was clean and Wi-Fi worked well. Breakfast wasn't much, but it was enough. Nights got a bit noisy. We were two women traveling alone in May and had a good stay. We didn't use the pool, though it looked really nice from our room (photo is a view from our room). PS: try sandsurfing!

For 100 soles, I had a single room with a balcony. The hostel was okay, with a small restaurant that doesn't offer much, though there are other places to eat nearby. The pool was full of kids. Staff kept looking at their phones and didn't even say hi. There was only a hot-water shower, and when it's so hot, it would've been nice to cool off.
