They looked after our bikes for free while we were away on a 12 day jungle trip with Huayruro Tours to Pacaya-Samiria. After we got back, we stayed another two nights. On our final day we asked to check out late, and they said yes, but then charged us the full daily rate of 50 soles when we left. I’d read reviews from people who hadn’t booked a room and were allowed to wait for their boat and shower without paying, so I’m not sure why we were treated differently. If you’re staying a few extra hours for a boat, check in advance whether there’ll be a charge.

The owner let us in after midnight, following our 14 hour boat trip, which was incredibly kind of him. It’s a peaceful place in Lagunas, with clean, roomy rooms and mosquito nets on all the windows. There are shared areas where you can relax and get ready for your jungle trip.

My phone was snatched while I was waiting for the boat at the pier, and security around town doesn’t feel good. At the accommodation, the bed was clean and the owner was enthusiastic. But the tour service he recommended may be using deceptive pricing, possibly charging twice the local rate. If you’re going to the reserve, I’d suggest renting a three-wheeled motorcycle yourself instead of taking his recommendation.

The bed looked clean and was fairly comfortable, but the floor was dirty and the room smelled moldy. The owner wasn’t friendly. At night we could hear everyone else’s TVs, and the moto taxis were really noisy. The owner’s son played music in the evening and again at 6 am.
