Guizado Portillo Hacienda & Resort

Really enjoyed it. The weather was great, the facilities were pretty nice, and the service was good. Bring bug repellent. They offer free bikes for riding around an inner circuit, and a tour of their own mini zoo.

The staff were courteous and amazing, going above and beyond for guests, and I'd definitely come back. It's highly recommended, but getting into the main town is a bit of a pain if you don't have a vehicle. There were mosquitoes everywhere, so maybe management could do something to control them.

The valley setting in Lunahuaná is lovely, with beautiful grounds, and the restaurant staff were great. The food is well prepared but the choices are limited. Skip the ceviche, though. The rooms are large and the beds comfortable, but the dated interiors felt more like a roadside motel from 20+ years ago than a resort. They need a major update. Rooms weren't cleaned daily, and the pool was very dirty and cold even though we were told it was heated. There was no internet in the rooms, which is a serious problem when people need reliable 24/7 broadband for work. Prices are high for what the hotel currently offers, and it doesn't feel like good value. If they fixed these issues, the price would fit. It's a nice place for a day or a weekend at most, but we spent a week and got bored. Restaurant staff were great; the rest were invisible. There's potential here, but it needs sizeable infrastructure investment to meet the prices and what tourists expected in 2020. It could be five stars, but falls short. As it is, just meh.

The rooms were clean, there was hot water, and the internet was decent. It was a bit expensive, but felt worth the price. A beautiful resort with tasty food and drinks, good care from the staff, and enough activities to enjoy the grounds day and night.
