Being close to the beach was the one real plus, though plenty of nearby hotels have that too. The restaurant resort name is misleading because no food was available. Breakfast was poor: just a small airline-style serving of white bread and marmalade, and on some days there wasn't even milk or juice. Peru has great food and fruit, so this felt like laziness from the staff. Room cleaning came at 5 pm, when we wanted to come back and rest, even though the hotel was barely occupied. The door lock was broken all week and never repaired, so we couldn't relax when the door was open because we worried our things might go missing. The pool was cleaned right at the busiest time. The place seemed badly organized, and the service was very poor. I definitely don't recommend it and wouldn't stay again.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. After I'd already checked in, they changed the price at the last minute and made things difficult for me, even though the mistake came from the person who had answered my call. It left me feeling scammed.

I haven't even stayed at Kites Mancora, but this is already the worst travel experience I've had in all my years of traveling. They took my $300 deposit quickly, then ignored my emails for 1-2 weeks after I canceled 9 weeks ahead because of work obligations. I had to keep chasing them every day for a response. Eventually, they said they couldn't refund the money because it was high season, but could hold it for a future booking. I can't travel to Peru at that time, and after this experience I have no desire to do business with them again. I can find no written policy on the website saying high season bookings are nonrefundable. The only cancellation note I saw said cancellations had to be made 4 weeks ahead, with no exceptions. There was no mention that high season meant no refund, and nothing on my PayPal receipt said that either. They were notified 8 weeks in advance, and I don't believe they couldn't find another customer for the slot. I don't think there is a legally binding contract between us. I've asked dozens of times for my deposit back and pleaded my case, but they ignored me. I have everything documented to protect myself, and they don't seem interested in fixing this. It feels completely unfair and unprofessional, and I feel taken advantage of. The US number on their website doesn't work. I also attached a screenshot of the website's written policy in small letters in case they change it. I should have read the reviews more closely before booking, and I regret it. I've dealt with better, even higher-end places that have reasonable cancellation policies. This is beyond unreasonable, and I would never recommend this accommodation. Beware before booking.
