El Sol De Oro Hotel

We stayed here twice, before and after Machu Picchu, and they kindly stored our large backpacks. The staff were excellent. The room was spacious and clean, with a perfect bed and hot water in the shower. This hotel only opened a few months ago and deserves its success. It's about a 20-minute walk from the center, a good spot for peace and quiet. If you're sensitive to light and noise while sleeping, bring an eye mask and earplugs.

Julián runs an excellent place and lets travelers leave their vehicles while they go on trips such as Machu Picchu. There's ample room for motorhomes and vans, and you can stay in peace. It's very close to the train station and town center. You can also get to the bus terminal for buses to Aguas Calientes or Route 82, where one of the trails to Machu Picchu Pueblo begins, a 30 km hike. Julián can suggest lots of free places to visit.

Julian, the manager, was so lovely and even pointed out a shortcut into the town center. The little hotel is quiet and pretty secluded, though you do hear the train pass now and then. It’s about a 20-30 minute walk from Ollantaytambo, and at €10 a night the comfort was perfect and everything was impeccably clean.

You get mountains all around, a river below, and stars at night at this new, affordable hotel. The beds, linens, shampoo, and hot water were all excellent, and it’s convenient if you’re driving, with parking available. One downside is the ring road location: headlights from passing cars shine in all night.
