Hotel Phoenix

Booking was a nightmare. Don’t use a third party, or you may arrive with no room. They say this problem has been happening since 2018. Booking directly with the hotel should avoid it, and I found their Facebook page was the only way to get efficient, effective communication. Once there, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and they can arrange for someone to accompany you wherever you go. Rooms were very clean, with ensuite bathrooms. Breakfast was included and very nice, and the steak house food was great. The general manager was helpful during my stay. Margaret from housekeeping may be the kindest person you’ll ever meet, and Peter at reception was gentle and really helpful. Alice at reception was terrible: unreliable, impossible to organise anything through, and awful at replying to emails. She should be moved out of customer service, score 0/10. Internet only works in reception. Things were somewhat disorganised, and there was no tourist information about things to do, though staff were happy to suggest ideas when asked. Would stay again!

A cheap, affordable place to stay, though hot water is limited. Watch out for local bandits in the surrounding area. Always use a car, don’t walk.

Phoenix Hotel was a bitter experience for me. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where water was rationed before. One day we woke up with no water, went out without bathing, and came back in the evening to find it still wasn’t running. I never want to go there again 😭

The restaurant and reception staff gave great service, and the food was great. But at 5:30 in the morning we spent 30 minutes trying to find a security guard so we could get out. The beds were awful, with hard springs, and I couldn’t sleep. The fridge was moldy because it hadn’t been turned on, but reception came up and cleaned it right away.
