Madang Lodge Hotel

I’ve stayed here twice, and the rooms were great both times. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food was fresh and high quality. The problem was the wait: even on a quiet day, it took about 20 minutes to get drinks and around an hour and a half for the main course. A few times, our order wasn’t even passed to the chef. Once it arrived, the food was very good. I’d still recommend the place.

When I arrived a day late because of flight delays, someone else had been put in my room. I was told I’d have to wait for them to check out and for the room to be cleaned before I could check in. Not great. The listing said WiFi, but there was none, and they didn’t adjust the price despite the false advertising. Breakfast was terrible. I sent it back because it was cold, and the replacement still had problems. The mattress was so thin I could feel the wooden slats, which wasn’t good for my back over four nights. The price was high with no inclusions. The listing also said shuttle service, but that costs extra. I’d stay somewhere else. It wasn’t good value for money.

I’ve been here more than a dozen times and haven’t been disappointed once. The ocean view and lovely gardens are great, and the location is convenient. Highly recommended.

I always look forward to visiting the Lodge when I’m on vacation. It has one of the few nice pools left in Madang and a beautiful view. Swimming is possible, though there’s no beach, and jumping off the rocks is fun. The battered fish is usually really good, but it can vary by day.
