Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center

I stayed here in 2020 and thought it was a nice place.

The pool was nice, and our second-floor room was fine. It’s a historic hotel in a great central spot. Nearby, you can visit the Butuan National Museum, and Weegool’s Garden Restaurant serves some great authentic food on palm leaves.

The rooms are somewhere around mid to okay, and everything worked as intended naman. The pool is typical, the staff are professional, and the place has a lot of history. Food? Hmmmn, maybe 6/10. I last came for a seminar. It rained, and the ceiling leaked like crazy. I don’t know whether they still have that problem. I do like that they’ve made the hotel somewhat of a museum, with antique things in the lobby. It doesn’t exactly improve the stay, but it’s a nice touch that reflects part of the city’s history.

I’d come back here. The staff were really nice, and the place was clean. It’s an affordable hotel with lots of historical references to the time before and after Magellan. The rooms are very basic, more like what I’d expect from a two-star place. Breakfast was included and good, with egg, rice, bangus (milk fish), and coffee. We noticed the pool was a little dirty, though only slightly. It’s surrounded by tall trees, so things can easily fall into the water.
