Southpole Central Hotel

Getting around was easy from here, since major establishments are close and accessible. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and very affordable, so it felt like good value. I had a great stay, and it seems like a practical, pleasant option for either short or long stays. I’d recommend it! :)

The rooms were clean but old. The air conditioning units, which seem common in the Philippines, looked like they were from the 80s: loud, though they made the room very cold. The hotel was noisy too, with people talking loudly in the hallway at all hours. Wi-Fi on the fifth floor was weak and unstable. Breakfast is free but nothing special, though you can order eggs cooked to order. The braised pork ribs were edible. There isn’t much around despite the city center location, so you’ll probably need to eat dinner at the hotel. For an airport connection, I’d look for a room in Macatan instead, since traffic to get here can be a killer. I guess this place is okay for one night.

They let us leave our bags there while we explored the city, even though it wasn’t check-in time yet. The staff were accommodating and the location was nice. Breakfast was so-so. Overall, I recommend the hotel.

Once the sheets were changed, the replacement room was okay, though I’d had to ask because its bed also had yellow stains and hair, as if the sheets hadn’t been changed. Later, I found two cockroaches in the bathroom while showering, even though we were on the seventh floor. The first room was awful. The furniture was cracked and pieces were falling off, while the bedding had yellow stains and what looked like hair all over it. We complained to reception and got another room, but no one apologized for all the problems. Honestly, I couldn’t have had a worse experience. In my opinion the hotel should be shut down. Just so you know, they take a 1000ph deposit for any damage to the room. I didn’t see anything there to damage that wasn’t already stained, broken, or falling apart.
