Coron Bancuang Mansion

The balcony view from the Honeymoon Suite was lovely, though getting up to that high room meant climbing a lot of stairs. We saw plenty of lizards around the property, but none came into our room. Towels were replaced every day, and the staff were consistently kind and helpful. Breakfast was a good deal, especially the Western options, which we liked more than what many local restaurants serve. The room itself was less comfortable. The bathroom was old and tiny, there was no hot water in the shower, and the sheets smelled musty enough to affect our sleep. Toiletries were almost nonexistent, just a small, inadequate packet, and the bottled water tasted odd. The AC blew straight at the bed, which made sleeping uncomfortable. It's a mixed stay: good people, breakfast, and a view, but basic room comfort needs work. For us, about a 3/5.

We got a surprise upgrade when we arrived, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only snag was low water pressure, which maintenance fixed after coming by twice.

The beds, pillows, and linens felt like hotel quality, which isn't always what you get for this affordable price. They weren't five-star, but they were comfortable enough away from home. The staff were also lovely and sorted out the few things we asked for right away. At first I wasn't excited about all the stairs, especially since my mother might not feel the same way about them as I did. The inside looked old, from the furniture to the design. But the place was very clean, and it grew on me. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, and I liked the maze-like layout and endless stairs. I don't think any rooms are exactly alike. It seems carefully built around the terrain to make good use of the space, rather than thrown together. There's no real view, since Coron Town itself isn't particularly scenic. I ended up liking its old-fashioned, rustic feel. It's dated, but dependable.

The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel looked after. It's right in the main area.
