Skylodge Resort

We moved here after having a bad time at another hotel, and were really glad we did. The staff were helpful, our room was clean, breakfast was good, and the WiFi and hot water worked. The view was hard to beat. The only drawback is the steep hill. There’s a shuttle at limited times, or you can hire a driver if you don’t want to walk up.

The terrace view at breakfast was a real highlight, with a panorama of Coron town, the harbor, and the bay. The staff were also a bright spot. We booked the wrong month by mistake, and after some initial trouble communicating, they let us shift our booking a month earlier without an issue. Grace helped us a lot and sorted it out smoothly. They also arranged a private, air-conditioned airport van for 500 pesos, helped us book a tour, and gave us towels for the tour at no charge. Getting to the hotel can be a challenge. It’s up a steep hill, and some tricycle drivers wouldn’t go all the way, so twice we walked about 300 m after being dropped at the main road. There’s a free shuttle to town and back every 30 minutes in the morning and evening, until 9 PM, so planning around that can save you a tricycle ride. The driver was friendly too. Our cheaper room was very small and humid, with a slight moldy smell. There were stains on the blankets, and the bathroom repairs looked rough, including a toilet seat fixed with glue. The pool looked old and the water wasn’t inviting, though it seemed to get cleaned each morning. We didn’t use it. Breakfast was average Filipino style, with warm dishes, toast, fruit, and cereal. We tried to get a sundowner at the restaurant, but they had no beer, and the rum and Coke we ordered instead was disappointing. We’d eat in town. For two nights on a low budget, it was manageable, but not the resort holiday we’d want. The rooms and facilities need work despite the great view and staff.

Grace made us feel looked after from the start and was attentive to every detail. Emi gave me the best massage I had in the Philippines, and the breakfast each morning was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The rooms were huge and comfortable, and the pool and gym were nice extras. Skylodge Resort was a relaxing stay in Coron, and I’d definitely come back.

We paid for a room that didn’t feel worth the money. It smelled of cigarettes as soon as we walked in, and the trash hadn’t been emptied. The bedding looked unchanged, and the pillows smelled like the previous guests. The place needs renovation and maintenance, and the room needs a housekeeper who takes cleanliness seriously. It was a real shame to have this experience.
