I’ve stayed at several Red Planet Hotels around the Philippines, and they’re usually my go-to for good value. This one felt older and less clean than the others. There were bugs in my room, even though it was on the 10th story, which wasn’t a disaster but fell short of the usual standard. The ocean-view room wasn’t worth the extra cost for me. Skyscrapers now block the view that looks like it used to be beautiful and clear. The hotel is in the historically known Red Light District around Malate/Mabini, a sketchier part of Manila, which may explain why it’s cheaper. It can work as budget lodging if you’re in the area, though I’d try Makati Amorsolo or Makati Avenue first for a better stay.

The Chinese cafe by the entrance was expensive and the food was poor, so I wouldn’t recommend eating there. The bedroom air conditioning was noisy, but it kept the room cool. There’s parking on the first floor with direct lift access, hot and cold water downstairs for refilling bottles, and secure bag storage at reception. The hotel was clean, safe, and comfortable, and a great value for walking around Malate.

For a short, practical stay, this place is often rated good to very good. It’s budget friendly, well located, and the staff are helpful, though the rooms are basic and extras are limited. Travelers wanting more comfort or a fuller set of amenities may prefer another hotel.

I come back to Red Planet hotel Mabini whenever I return home for vacation. The staff’s service and dedication are what I appreciate most, and I think the hotel deserves a higher star rating. The rooms are okay, though some could use an upgrade. Internet is fine at times but can log out. It would also be useful if guests could connect their own apps, such as Netflix or IWant, to the TV, since sometimes we don’t want to watch the cable channels. For me, the experience each time I book and stay matches the performance of a 5 star hotel.

The bed was the best part for me, really soft and comfortable. I had a pleasant stay at Red Planet Hotel. A kettle in every room would be handy, and the Wi-Fi was a bit slow while I was there.
