Queen Margarette Hotel Mauban

We had a lovely one-night stay. The room was very clean, the staff were kind, and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet in the morning.

We were especially looking forward to a shower after the long drive, but skipped it because the bathroom water was so dirty. The tap initially gave us floating particles and who-knows-what, almost like flood water. I ran it for more than 30 minutes and it only became slightly clearer. It still wasn’t usable for hygiene, especially washing intimate areas, so we bought bottled water just to brush our teeth. The room itself was small but decent, and we knew when booking that it had no TV because the receptionist had told us. The blanket was so thin it felt like a bedsheet. The air-conditioning worked well and was quite cold, but the bedding made things uncomfortable. WiFi was slow and unreliable, which made it hard to stay connected or get work done. My partner’s Oakley sunglasses went missing from our motorcycle, which had been parked overnight. There was supposedly a guard on duty, but no CCTV cameras outside. That’s concerning when guests have vehicles. The staff who helped us were polite and gave good service, and the food was great. The place has potential, but security, water quality, WiFi, and basic amenities need serious work. I’m not sure we’ll return.

I only stayed because there wasn’t another “recommended” hotel in Mauban. I wouldn’t really call this a hotel, it felt more like a hostel, and I wouldn’t recommend it. My room was on the third floor with no elevator, so getting up there with big luggage was hard. The location was difficult to access, with little or no street parking. The blanket was extremely thin, the air conditioner was very loud, and the WiFi worked only about half the time. The sheets had stains and small holes, and there was exposed electrical wiring in several common areas.

The place was clean and easy to spot, but the standard room had no hot shower on a cold, rainy day, and I had to ask for bath soap. Parking is on the road, and breakfast came cold.
