Oriental Pension Plaza

I paid around the average market price for a room in Ormoc and thought the hotel looked appealing. It definitely wasn't, and I wish I'd posted this sooner so others wouldn't waste their hard-earned money. It should be out of business. Given all the bugs, I'm glad they didn't offer breakfast. Lives were saved. This review deserves minus 1000 stars. I stayed at Oriental Pension Plaza in October 2015, almost ten years ago. Before writing, I checked other reviews to see whether anything had changed. It hasn't. I'd booked two nights through a third-party site while exploring Cebu and the Visayas for the first time. The lobby seemed okay, but the receptionist's attitude, like she was just there to do a job, gave me a sense of what was coming. I remember thinking, “This is not a hotel.” The room had the basic amenities: bed, bathroom, lights, air conditioning, and a TV. But there were hundreds of bed bugs across the bed, so I wouldn't put my luggage on it. The air conditioning didn't work, though Ormoc happened to be cool that night. The TV turned on but had no channels. It was a late 2000s or early 2010s flat screen with dust and stains, some possibly from sticky food. Internet and phone service were terrible, and the bathroom had no running water and an unusable toilet. I arrived late and went down to reception to ask for another room after finding all this. The answer was basically, “Sorry.” To be fair, there was some language barrier because I mostly speak English, but the woman understood me. The hotel had a fair chance to hear my concerns and make things right, but couldn't. They might have moved me to another room, but I felt it would be just like the one I'd been assigned. I wasn't getting anywhere. The next morning, after that long struggle with the hotel, I checked out early and caught the first ferry back to Cebu. The same receptionist said and did nothing to improve my stay. Since I'd paid through a third-party site, Oriental Pension Plaza couldn't refund the second night.
