Papa Fred's Beach Resort

I’m only commenting on the standard rooms, since the resort has different room types. Ours was cramped, with little room for belongings, and dark because it had no outside-facing windows. It did have useful basics: a kettle, minibar, safe, and hairdryer. The mattress felt quite hard, though, and the shower did have hot water. Our old air conditioner was noisy, faulty, and very slow to cool the room; the units in other standard rooms looked newer. It also switched off when we took the key out to leave, unless you left the key inside with the room open or asked reception for the passpartout each time. We had two back-to-back three-night bookings and asked to change rooms for the second stay, but they wouldn't accommodate us. That felt unpleasant and unfair. The rooftop pool is tiny, about 5 by 2 meters, and mainly useful for a quick cool-down when low tide makes swimming in the sea difficult. There is a generator for the frequent power cuts.

Right on the beach, which makes this a handy spot for diving. The rooms are clean and have nearly everything you need. For food, I’d suggest Tina's for breakfast along the main strip and Relax restaurant for dinner.

We booked through Agoda because the listing said “Pet Allowed” and showed up in the pet-friendly filter. We only paid because we believed pets were accepted. Now the hotel refuses a refund, saying it’s covered by Agoda’s policies. We would never have booked if we’d known pets weren’t actually allowed. The way they’ve handled it has been awful. They speak to me disrespectfully, act like they can’t hear me on the phone, and keep repeating that the booking is non-refundable while hiding behind Agoda’s policies. They’re scamming people who work hard to afford a vacation. This is unacceptable. Avoid the hotel at all costs.

The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean. The floor felt a bit sticky and slippery, maybe because of the cleaning products. There’s a small corner with snacks and drinks for convenience, though the prices are high. The location is okay, near the terminal and commercial area.
