Stella and Matt were two of the kindest people I've met in my year of backpacking. They welcomed me like family but were also happy to give me space when I wanted it. It was lovely chatting with them and sharing stories. The food was delicious, and Stella is an amazing cook. She can have breakfast ready when you wake up if you want. Free water was always a nice bonus. My room was perfect, with a comfy bed, a clean, big bathroom, and a little table outside. They went out of their way to help me, from sharing information about extending my visa to giving me a ride to the mall. They helped me rent a bike for much less than I could find elsewhere, and Stella sat down with me to plan my whole trip through Palawan. Some people might hesitate because it's outside the city center, but Puerto Princesa doesn't really have a city center. You'll need transport to get to the attractions, though there are still quite a few things you can walk to from here. If you happen to find this place, book it!

The rooms are good, the place is very clean, and the price is inexpensive. The staff are so hospitable, make you feel welcome, ask what you need, and offer advice.

Stella and Matt made us feel at home from the start. We stayed two nights and arrived as guests, but left feeling like friends. We didn't expect such warmth and hospitality, and would definitely recommend staying here. We'll come back when we're in the area, and wish them both all the best. They took care of so many things without being asked. For instance, we hung our wet laundry outside, but were leaving the next morning and it probably wouldn't have dried in time. While we were out all day, Stella brought it into her room and hung it in front of the air conditioner so it would be dry for us. She also personally checks the rooms before guests arrive, and ours was clean and tidy. We got there about three hours before check-in and were able to go to our room straight away without paying extra. Stella even cooked for us right away. She's a fantastic cook, and you have to eat here! Both Stella and Matt are conscientious and ready with tips and help. Stella arranged a tour we had planned and our onward transport after checkout. She called around to make sure we'd have a good time, without taking a commission or charging us anything. Power cuts happen repeatedly in Puerto Princessa. Matt has installed solar panels and a wind turbine to keep the electricity going, and they worked really well. I don't think every place to stay around here has a system like that. A note about a few comments I've seen: some people complain about not getting air conditioning or hot water, but both are clearly described in the listing. Anyone who doesn't read it has only themselves to blame. At this price, those things simply aren't economically possible. Even so, Stella and Matt offer far more than you'd expect.

The owners are lovely, friendly people, and the hotel is a great place to relax. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Food was some of the best Filipino cooking I've had, and I had the best omelette I've eaten in Asia. This was my favorite hotel in the Philippines by quite a distance, and the best value I've found there. I'd say stay here, but you might end up extending your visit!

We only spent one night here when we first arrived in Palawan, and Stella and Matt were such wonderful hosts that we wished we could stay longer. The rooms are spacious and comfortable too. Highly recommend.
