Hill Myna Beach Cottage

The volunteers were lovely, and the ones working at night did a great job checking whether we needed anything. The location is great, but the place definitely needs renovation. Our room was poorly furnished, and there seemed to be mold on the walls. The bathroom combined the shower and toilet. Regular service staff didn’t pay much attention, and we waited a long time to order food, except on the nights the volunteers were working. There are also lots of dogs at the hotel. They like pets and will sit by your table hoping for food, but they aren’t aggressive.

It has more of a backpacker feel, with low-quality rooms for the price: faulty air conditioning, mold on the walls, and doors that barely close. When we checked out at 12h00, the breakfast plates from 07h00 were still on the table 🤣. Staff sometimes forgot our food and drink orders too. There’s that one place between the two lodges that’s on a different level of accommodation.

The staff were super friendly, and there’s a good evening menu and bar. Rooms are basic but comfortable. It’s an idyllic beachfront spot if you want to relax.

The location is excellent, but the room descriptions need reviewing and the planned renovation needs doing. We expected a sea-view terrace cottage based on the booking and the heavily promoted ads. There were only two cottages on the property; the rest were rooms at the back with no sea view. On arrival, we were put in one of the disheveled back houses. Staff said we’d booked a “deluxe studio,” not the sea-view terrace cottage we thought we had. The room didn’t match what we booked or the description, and it was filthy. The floor hadn’t been cleaned, the windows looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months, the toilet was very dirty, the door wouldn’t close, the sink was nearly falling apart, and the air conditioning was so loud we couldn’t sleep. The door lock was broken too. Staff were rude, dismissive and unhelpful. After I pushed them to do something or offer a refund, they offered breakfast as a concession, but it was mediocre. We left after one night because we couldn’t stand the filth. The owner was just as dismissive and unprofessional when I asked to speak with them, and refused a refund. They only said our concern was noted and understood. They admitted the rooms were due for renovation, but it had been halted because of the typhoon. At these prices, the rooms aren’t worth it, and the descriptions are deceptive.
