1888 Beach Resort

We booked one of the newer sea-view rooms for day use and had a really pleasant, private-feeling visit. It wasn't crowded at all, so it was great for unwinding. The rooms have a lot of potential and reminded me of a little Santorini, Greece. The cook did a great job with our order, though I wish the food could be included with the room. They could also offer a wider coffee selection. Thanks for having us!

The infinity pool was a lovely place to take in the coastal breeze, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We also enjoyed hearty Filipino food at the restaurant. Breakfast costs extra, but the meals were reasonably priced and satisfying. 1888 Beach Resort sits along the Tañon Strait at Km 15, Tapon Norte in San Jose, Negros Oriental, a short drive from Dumaguete City. The sea views are beautiful, and on a clear day you can see Cebu Island across the water. The rooms and casitas are simple and clean, with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and comfortable beds. It makes a peaceful base for a quiet weekend or a romantic break, and you can also head out to places like the Bais sandbar or Twin Lakes. A scenic, relaxed stay without being too far from town. Kudos, I'll be back.

The oceanfront rooms have expanded since my last visit, and the views make for a relaxing stay. Getting in and out is easy, which makes 1888 Resort a convenient choice when you're visiting Negros Oriental. Food and cold drinks were excellent, and the pizza is well worth a stop if you're just passing through. This was another great stay. I arrived on my motorcycle and even the security staff greeted me with a smile. The service I've had on previous visits was just as good this time, with staff going out of their way to help. Great hospitality, whether you're here for one night or a week.

Edit 2, replying to the owner: Even after I shared photos, the owner still hasn't taken responsibility and is now blaming Agoda for the mistake. That stubborn response fits the low standards I've seen here, which seem likely to continue. Edit, replying to the owner: I changed my rating to one star because of the owner's poor attitude, and added photos to show what I called her misinformation. Check the facts before posting claims about me. I booked a “standard room” with a “queen bed” through agoda, and the photos there showed the room I expected. Instead, you tried to put me in a twin room that smelled like mold. Having to walk all the way from that room to get drinking water for my flask isn't exceptional service. It's 2025, not 1888, and there wasn't any free drinking water in the room. You wanted to sell small plastic bottles instead, which hardly seems environmentally friendly. Your standards are much lower than those at nearby resorts, and your Google rating is lower too. Please take negative feedback seriously and try to improve. Original review: I booked a double bed, but was told at arrival that none were available and I'd have to take a twin. After I complained, they offered the room from my original booking after all. So a double was available, but for some reason they first tried to put me in a twin, then called the double a free upgrade. The rooms are small and slightly damp-smelling. Nearby places at the same price offer free breakfast, which this one doesn't, and there are better alternatives.
