Coucou Bar Hotel and Restaurant

The atmosphere was relaxing, which earns it two stars from me. The burger, though, was dry and had no flavor. Even the stray cats outside wouldn’t touch what was left. The waitresses seemed to avoid customers, so I won’t be coming back.

A cozy place with attentive staff, and they take cards. The buko juice comes chilled, and I really liked the Mexican Pizza. Good portion size too, definitely worth trying.

The spring rolls were delicious, but the tinulang manok was mostly chicken bones with very little meat, and my red Thai curry never arrived. My girlfriend’s meal and the spring rolls were all we got, even though I’d repeated the order to the waitress to make sure it was right. When we arrived the night before, nobody showed us to a seat or gave us a menu. After ordering, we weren’t given much time to choose. The three staff members were chatting behind the bar, and one was on a phone. I wouldn’t recommend this place and wouldn’t return.

The food is just okay, though that seems about typical for the island. What really put me off was the service. There were sometimes six or seven staff behind the bar on their phones, and it took ages for anyone to notice us. I ordered bacon with my omelet once and paid 300P (9.5 USD) for four tiny rashers. A restaurant about 100m away charges 65P for eight. And if you get a fruit shake, watch it being made: they lick the tasting spoon, then use that same spoon to scoop your shake out of the blender. Pretty shocking.
