Kota Beach Resort

The beach was the only good part of this resort. The staff were friendly, though slow, and the food was nice, but breakfast was basic and the same every day. The price was far too high for what we got. We paid 24,000 for five nights, and the WiFi was down most of the time even after we told reception we needed it for work. We had two different cottages, and both had awful bathrooms with broken toilets. Everything felt very old, and the air conditioning was loud. I don’t understand the positive reviews. Room 17 was ours, so watch out for that one. We do not recommend the resort.

This isn’t a place to relax. Outsiders took up the few chairs and two pavilions, disturbing our peace and forcing us to move. The guards did nothing. People packed into a tiny cottage and partied until morning, keeping us awake, and nobody stopped them. We went to the police department to ask about enforcing the noise ordinance and were told the limit is 11pm. The resort is shabby too. The bathroom is falling apart, and the grout is moldy.

The staff were very nice and filled my water bottle in the restaurant. They also forgot that I had two separate bookings back to back and had confirmed I could keep the same room. When the first booking ended, they called and messaged about late checkout as though I had no second reservation. It showed poor attention to detail and could have meant changing rooms. The location is great, but I felt ripped off. The air conditioner clunked so loudly that I had to turn it off early every morning. Breakfast was cold, the instant coffee was awful, and another cup cost 60 pesos. There was no fridge in my room. They provide just one pillow per person and only sheets, with no blanket or duvet. I refused to pay the extra 50 pesos they tried to charge for more pillows. The mattress is extremely firm, basically a rock, though I don’t mind that myself.

We had to leave a day before checkout because we’d booked our flight early, but the staff were so kind and let us use the money as a restaurant voucher. We loved everything, especially the amazing meals. The food was literally perfect, and the handmade kota burger with shrimp and cheese was super yummy. We’d love to come back someday. The people were so nice, and our stay was really amazing.
