Meaco Hotel - Valenzuela

The room was comfortable and the price was affordable for a one-night stay. People were friendly, and for what I paid I can’t fault it much. The bathroom was acceptable, though it could have been cleaner. Someone had obviously smoked in the room before us: it smelled of smoke and there was a cigarette stubbed out in a tin bin. As an ex-smoker it didn’t bother me too much. The location is on a very busy, loud road.

I booked a nicer hotel six minutes away and didn’t care that I’d paid for the whole stay here. The room and bathroom were dirty and moldy, and I started coughing as soon as I went into the bathroom. There was mold on its walls and dirt on the room walls. The place feels like it’s falling apart. The room smelled of urinal deodorizer, the towels were dirty, there was no toilet paper, and there wasn’t a lamp on the bedside table. I could feel the mattress springs. It’s right by the highway, so it was very noisy even with the windows shut.

The room’s air conditioning barely worked, making an already uncomfortable visit worse. Visiting time is limited to 15 minutes, and there’s no elevator, only stairs. The manager said we could use the room for those 15 minutes, but even being 2 minutes late would mean another 300 pesos. We had to climb the stairs, catch our breath, and settle in, so that short limit barely gave us time; I even set an alarm to avoid overstaying. The manager also said any conversation should happen in the lobby, which is unacceptable for something private. I’ve stayed in many places, and this was a uniquely bad hotel experience in Valenzuela. I can’t recommend it to friends or tourists. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid it.

The stairs aren’t suitable for senior people. This hotel is poorly run, and the sheets smell of bleach and look old and shabby. I strongly DO NOT recommend it.
