Casa Rica Hotel

Casa Rica is an old house restored as an inn, so set your expectations accordingly. If you travel light and mainly need somewhere to sleep, it should work well. Guests expecting hotel service with towels, shampoo, and soap provided should look elsewhere, even though the name says "Casa Rica Hotel." There isn't a parking area either, so you'll have to park along the road.

The staff were very friendly, though they could use more training in how they speak with guests and answer questions. The place has a rustic, old-time feel if that's what you're after. But the room was small, the bathroom door knob was broken, and there was duct tape on the ceiling. Breakfast was awful. Also, there's a 10 pm curfew, so I wouldn't recommend staying here if you like going out late.

The rooms are quiet, with no outside noise, and have a cozy Spanish colonial feel. The scent was fairly nice, the linens crisp and fresh, and they provide the famous Ilocos blanket. It's comfortable, clean, and affordable, with hot showers, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, bottled water, free breakfast, and friendly staff. Breakfast was nice, though it could be better. Calle Crisologo and the plaza are a 5-10 minute walk away, and other tourist destinations are nearby. Rooms are on the small side, with no cabinets or storage, so lots of luggage could be a problem. There was no bellboy on duty during our stay, so good luck handling a lot of bags. Free on-street parking is available, but use a sunshade on the windshield because the sun rises directly toward the street. Still, it's good value for money.

The staff were kind, polite, accommodating, and easy to talk to. We stayed three nights and four days, and the room was clean and good. Breakfast portions were small but fine. Calle Crisologo is only a few minutes away on foot, and the hotel is easy to spot at the intersection. If you're maarte or mareklamo, this might not be for you.
