Palac Paulinum

The walk from the Old Town or the rail station takes about 25 minutes through pleasant surroundings. I found it an asset, not a hassle. I spent a winter weekend in this quiet manor, surrounded by a historic park, and loved the uninterrupted silence. After years of neglect, the building has been renovated and now has modern amenities while keeping its character and style. The prices are attractive too. I had a relaxing, satisfying stay and would choose it for a longer holiday.

I'm here on a business trip and haven't stayed anywhere worse. The staff are friendly, but the hotel needs a better manager. My room wasn't clean: there was mould around the shower base, and towels were old and torn. The hallways smelled damp and musty. Cleaners didn't even open the curtains properly, and the breakfast plates weren't washed well. The eggs were cold when they were meant to be hot, and food wasn't replenished often, so it was hard to find anything left. There was no air conditioning, phone for service, iron, or fridge, and the TV faced away from the beds toward the opposite wall. This isn't even a one-star hotel to me, more like a hostel. I rarely write reviews, but this felt necessary.

Breakfast and dinner were both top quality, so I'd recommend eating here. Breakfast had a nice range of Polish salads and spreads, different breads and cold cuts, plus cakes and fruit. We stayed one night in a suite and would gladly have stayed longer. The living room had tables where we could enjoy a meal and play cards, and there was a huge balcony, though scaffolding was on it. Parts of the hotel seem due for renovation. The rooms were large and elegant, but the enormous bed frame held a very thin mattress close to the floor. The jacuzzi was out of order during our visit, while the steam room and sauna were great, and my whole family enjoyed the salt cave. We didn't hear or notice any construction. The price was very reasonable, perhaps making up for the renovation work. There are also some rooms with real wow factor, definitely worth seeing.

The restaurant was top notch. We asked the waiter what to order, and the confit duck and beef broth were both excellent. We had an unforgettable time here. Renovated in 2018, the place is beautifully restored and full of antiques in great condition. The spacious, elegant staircase makes such an impression that, as the receptionist told us, guests often choose it over the elevator. The Gdansk room is right by reception, and across from it is a large ballroom that leads to the tiled hunters room. There's convenient parking and a romantic viewpoint over the mountains, adding to the old-time atmosphere. It feels like a magical place for an overnight stay or a good lunch or dinner, and it would also make weddings, business events, and conferences special. Highly recommended!
