You can’t beat the location: a slope is right outside the main entrance, and the main street is just down the road. Breakfast was filling, varied, and good value, although the person serving coffee seemed a bit annoyed with people. The rooms were a letdown compared with the website photos. They seemed much smaller in person, and our room for four had almost no room to move or make a simple meal for the kids. There was no kettle, and storage was lacking, so keeping winter clothes was a mess. The darts and pool in the shared areas were damaged and barely usable.

The whole place was clean, and Ms. Ania was great to communicate with. The gentleman on site wasn’t very friendly. Our rooms were very small, and the common room was nice but cold. There were ten of us, so it would have been good to sit together in the dining room in the evening, but it only opens for breakfast. Breakfast tasted good, though there wasn’t much variety.

Free parking and the spot close to the city center make getting around and sightseeing easy. The rooms were clean and well-kept, but small, and the bathrooms were small too, which could get uncomfortable on a longer visit. Breakfast was modest, though there should be something for everyone. Topaz guesthouse is a decent base for a short stay, especially if location matters to you.

The friendly service earns a star, and the location gets another. That’s about all I can give it. The price doesn’t fit the conditions: the room was tiny, there were no plates available, and the water barely trickled out and was only lukewarm. Breakfast was very bare bones, with just a tiny bain-marie for hot drinks. We love Karpacz, but the cramped room left us with bad memories.
